Aging Teeth Need A Lot of Attention
Tijuana Orthodontic & Cosmetic Dentist
Orthodontic & Cosmetic Dentist in Tijuana
Why Do Aging Teeth Need A Lot of Attention
Regardless of your age, it’s important to keep your mouth clean, healthy and feeling good, and it’s important to know the state of your periodontal health.
· At least half of people over age 55 have gum disease.
· Almost one in four people age 65 and older have lost all of their teeth.
· Receding gum tissue affects the majority of older people.
· Gum disease and tooth decay are the leading causes of tooth loss in older adults.
What you may not realize is that oral health is not just important for maintaining a nice-looking smile and being able to eat all the foods you love. Good oral health is essential to quality of life. If you live in the Boston area, there are cosmetic dentistry options that can increase the life of your teeth.
While your likelihood of developing periodontal disease increases with age, the good news is that research suggests that these higher rates may be related to risk factors other than age. Periodontal disease is not an inevitable aspect of aging. Risk factors that may make older people more susceptible include general health status, diminished immune status, medications, depression, worsening memory, diminished salivary flow, functional impairments and change in financial status.
Medications
Older adults are likely to take medications that can impact oral health and affect dental treatment. Hundreds of common medications, including antihistamines, diuretics, painkillers, high blood pressure medications, and antidepressants can cause side effects such as dry mouth, soft tissue changes, taste changes, and gingival overgrowth.
Dry mouth leaves the mouth without enough saliva to wash away food and neutralize plaque, leaving you more susceptible to tooth decay and periodontal disease. In addition, dry mouth can cause sore throat, problems with speaking, difficulty swallowing and hoarseness. Your dentist can recommend various methods to restore moisture, including sugarless gum, oral rinses or artificial saliva products.
Be sure to tell your dental professional about any medications that you are taking, including herbal remedies and over-the-counter medications.
Special Concerns for Older Women
Women who are menopausal or post-menopausal may experience changes in their mouths. Recent studies suggest that estrogen deficiency could place post-menopausal women at higher risk for severe periodontal disease and tooth loss.
In addition, hormonal changes in older women may result in discomfort in the mouth, including dry mouth, pain and burning sensations in the gum tissue and altered taste, especially salty, peppery or sour.
Bone loss is associated with both periodontal disease and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis could lead to tooth loss because the density of the bone that supports the teeth may be decreased. More research is being done to determine if and how a relationship between osteoporosis and periodontal disease exists.
Dental Implants
More and more older people are selecting dental implants over dentures as a replacement option for lost teeth. Whether you have lost one or all of your teeth, dental implants allow you to have teeth that look and feel just like your own. Older adults have similar success rate with implants compared with younger people. As long as you are in good health, you are never too old to receive a dental implant.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth saving than traditional bridgework since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.
Denture Care
Denture wearers need to avoid plaque buildup that can irritate the tissues under the dentures. Thoroughly clean dentures daily and remove dentures at night to avoid bacteria growth. If you wear dentures, you need to continue to see a dental professional regularly. Because mouths continually change, dentures need to be checked for proper fit to avoid irritation, increased bone loss and infections. A change in the fit of partial dentures could indicate periodontal disease.
Preventing Gum Disease
Even if you have managed to avoid periodontal disease until now, it is especially important to practice a meticulous oral care routine as you age. Receding gum tissue affects a large percentage of older people. This condition exposes the roots of teeth and makes them more vulnerable to decay and periodontal infection.
To keep your teeth for a lifetime, you must remove the plaque from your teeth and gums every day with proper brushing and flossing. Regular dental visits are also important. A professional cleaning at least twice a year is necessary to remove plaque from places your toothbrush and floss may have missed.

Dental Veneers for better smile, Tijuana, Mexico
Implanting an artificial tooth into the mouth is quite simple these days. Appropriate mechanisms will be affixed to the jawbone. The artificial tooth will be screwed into this mechanism. Titanium screws are widely employed for the purpose to affix the tooth properly into the artificial “socket”. The dental implants are broadly classified into the mini dental implants and major dental implants. The cost is, augmented, likewise, for major dental implants. These days’ people are known to opt for implants purely for cosmetic purposes also. In fact, a major share of the dental implant procedures is executed in the niche for the same purpose.
What are the advantages of implants in comparison to the normal dentures employed by the dentists?
These are listed in this passage. There are various strings (conditions/clauses) attached with dentures. You are even prohibited from indulging in specific kinds of food, a constant vigil must be kept at all the times, so that you never cross the threshold and damage the teeth. With the aid of dental implants all the conditions are merely history – now people can indulge in any type of foods, without ever considering the aftereffects. Titanium is a metal that is used extensively for the purpose – the simple reasoning behind this is that titanium can be fused into the jawbone easily and swiftly.
Once the procedure is completed, adequate time must be taken as a buffer – so that the healing process is augmented. Regular visits to the clinic for checkups are quite common then. Dentists are noted to conduct the surgery in a systematic approach (primarily in the form of stages). The surgery will depend upon the extent of damage caused to the root of the teeth, the number of tooth that is being transplanted to the jawbone. The procedure is of course, expensive.
The procedure is quite simple and painless – but this ultimately boils down to the dentist in question. The cost can be reduced by opting for financial aid from NHS (national health services). Nevertheless, this is applicable in certain countries only. The dentist might not assure the patient a 100% success rate; failures are quite common in the niche. Complications do arise, but only seldom. Discuss the procedure in detail with the dentist, before you sign up for the procedure. Like mentioned in the title, try to impart a new lease of life to your face. Expect an increase in the overall social appeal by opting for a dental implant.

Dental Implant vs Dental Bridge?
When should you have a Single Tooth Dental Implant and when should you have a Dental Bridge?
Advantages of a Dental Bridge:
• Dental bridges are faster
• Any dentist can make a dental bridge.
Advantages of a Single Tooth Dental Implants:
• Dental Implants are more comfortable
• The nearby teeth don’t have to be ground down
• Maintenance is less complicated
• Any problems later, just one tooth has to be treated. Bridges involve 3 teeth.
• Single Tooth Dental Implants don’t stress nearby teeth.

Don’t Ignore Bad Breath, Tijuana, Mexico
Do you have bad breath (halitosis)? Frankly, it is quite possible for anyone to have bad breath, yet not be aware of it. The reason for this is due to our body own acclimation whereby our noses filter out the odor that lies in the back of our mouth, making it difficult for a person to detect his or her own mouth odor.
To really know whether if you suffer from bad breath, try the following 5 tests and find out if you have bad mouth odor.
- Stand in front of the mirror and stick your tongue out as far as possible. If you notice that the very back of your tongue is whitish, it may be a sign that you have bad mouth odor.
- Another easy and convenient test you can do anywhere is to lick the back of your hand, wait for the saliva to dry and then smell it. If you smell a bad odor, you may have bad breath.
- To test for halitosis, you can also run a piece of dental floss between your back teeth and then smell the floss. If you can smell an odor from a distance, it would be a good indicator of the level of odors that other people might detect when talking with you.
- One quick method that dentists use to test for bad breath that you can also try at home is to wipe the top surface of the tongue with a piece of cotton swab and then smelling the odor on the cotton. If the cotton swab also produce a yellowish stain after you wipe your tongue, it’s likely you have a high concentration of volatile sulfuric compounds (VSC), an indicator of chronic bad breath.
- If possible, one of the best and most honest ways to test whether if you have bad mouth odor is to ask the opinion of someone close to you or whom you can trust. The truth may be ugly but the answer will definitely be an honest one.

Depending upon the degree and type of disease, periodontal treatments will vary. After our dentist and dental hygienist have evaluated your teeth for periodontal disease, they will recommend treatment as appropriate.
What causes Periodontal and Gum Disease?
When the pocket between the gums and the tooth (the sulcus) becomes full of tartar, plaque, and bacteria, it causes irritation to the gums. This is called periodontal disease. Damage to the gums and the jawbone can occur if these irritants stay in the pocket space. The word periodontal literally means ‘around the tooth.’

Dental Implants
Let’s understand this first. Usually, missing teeth are replaced by bridges, partial dentures or complete dentures. Bridges utilize the support from the adjacent teeth, thus compromising them in the long run. The removal dentures given for loss of teeth are not tight enough and may compromise the chewing efficiency and also the health of the individual. At times loose dentures might be a cause for social embarrassment too. Therefore, for durability and comfort Dental Implant comes in to picture.
What are Dental Implants?
An implant is a metallic screw made of titanium which is inserted in to the jaw bone to anchor the missing tooth or your denture permanently to the jaw bone.
Who is fit for dental implants?
Anyone in good health of any age group and wants to replace missing teeth. Seeking person should have enough bone in the area of the missing teeth to provide anchorage of the implants.
What are the advantages of Dental Implants over Dentures or a Bridge?
From all angle and aspects Dental Implants are a better solution to the problem of fixing missing teeth.
Does Dental Implants look and feel like your own teeth?
Since Dental Implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany your bridge work and dentures. No one will ever come to know that you have a replacement tooth.
Tooth Saving
Implants don’t sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth like a bridge does because neighboring teeth are not altered to support the implant. More of your own teeth are left untouched & this is a significant long term benefit to your oral health.
Confidence
Implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence. They are firmly anchored and offer freedom from loose denture.
What is the success rate of Dental Implant?
Implants are very successful. In healthy individual the success rate is about 95% to 99%. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes or other major medical problems will reduce the chances of integration & success ratio.
How are implants done?
Having assessed the quality and quantity of the underlying bone, the faciomaxillary surgeon will place the implants into your jaws. This surgical procedure is usually done under local anesthesia. The healing time of about three to six months are given to allow the implants to integrate with your bone. In the third stage, the prosthodontist will fix the crown or your denture to implant.
Does it hurt to have implants placed?
No. Usually implants are placed under local anesthesia and the actual surgical procedure is not at all painful. After the local anesthetic effect wears out there might be slight discomfort which is managed by simple pain killer tablets.
Aftercare
It is very important to keep you implants clean. Strict cleaning procedures are a special brush or floss should be done regularly. Periodic cleaning by you dentist at least once in three months is recommended.
What Dental Implants can do for you?
- You can talk, laugh & give that wicked smile without worrying.
- Your new teeth is firmly anchored
- Feel just like your own teeth.
- You can eat without any problem.
- There is no need to file down adjacent teeth.
- You can discover your natural smile.

People who have lost a tooth need not despair anymore, thanks to the advent of dental implants. If you are in Philadelphia, you have many a dentist and hospital which offer this service. People who lose a tooth can rectify their situation through dental bridgework. A dental bridge is nothing but a false tooth, held together by a set of crowns on the adjacent sides. In most cases, where one has lost one tooth, the adjacent teeth also are prepared by drilling to accommodate the new tooth. Although some are comfortable with this treatment, many others may feel uncomfortable with the dental bridges. This is where dental implants can help you.
Dental implants have gained popularity over dental bridges in recent times. Dental implants are essentially a titanium screw that is fused with the bone tissue and is anchored into the jaw bone. Once the implant is fused firmly with the jawbone, a porcelain crown is fastened onto the exposed portion of the dental implant. And voila, you have a brand new artificial tooth that looks and feels like a real thing. Moreover, unlike in the case of dental bridges, the adjacent teeth need not be affected.
Philadelphia has a number of dentists who can offer you dental implants. They are among the most renowned physicians in the implant dentistry. You can locate them through the local yellow pages or through online resources.

Benefits of Implant Tech With No Bone Loss
Without the proper treatment by a dental implant specialist and continued maintenance, the success rates of dental implants are greatly reduced. Complications from dental implants can include inflammation, swelling, tissue loss, bone loss, or even nerve damage to the gums and jaw bone.
Fortunately, there is an implant system, which along with the help of an experienced practitioner, ensures long-term form and aesthetic function. Periodontists have spent the past seven years spreading the word about the implant system, in hopes that the world’s dentists and practitioners will adopt the best implant treatment possible.
The design is so unique and successful that all of the world’s leading implant manufacturers have cloned this design concept over the last several years. The design preserves bone in the jaw. This is essential when having esthetic tooth replacement in the front of the mouth. If the bone even recedes 2 mm under the gum over time, the overlying gum tissue will recede causing an aesthetic failure.
Since the inception of implantology 35 years ago, dentists have been treating implant patients under the rule that 2 mm of bone resorption within the first year of the procedure is permissible. However, research has shown that over time even 2 mm of bone loss has repercussions, in that the gum tissue loses stability and becomes susceptible to inflammation.
It has virtually no micromovement, is bacteria proofed, prevents bone resorption, and ensures stable and healthy soft tissue in the jaw.
The purpose was to demonstrate whether or not the system meets dentists’ and clients’ standards of success and is suitable for single tooth replacements, bridge abutments, and retention.
Evaluating nearly 5,500 implants, the study tested for clinical stability, inflammation of hard and soft tissue, bone loss, mucosa loss, and patient satisfaction. The results found a 98.7% success for restoration and 97.9% success for end-implant restoration; a 97.3% success rate where there was a large gap involved; and a 95.8% success rate when involving reduced dentition.
Periodontists’ patients can live a life without worrying about their implants. Their patients don’t have to worry about infection or long-term bone loss, and it looks so natural that they have little self-consciousness about their implants. They can only hope every dentist adopts this system as the periodontists at their practice have.

If you have a missing tooth or missing teeth, you can have teeth replaced by D B, dentures or dental implants. This article will discuss the difference between dental bridges and partial dentures.
What Are Dental Bridges?
D.B are fixed porcelain replacements of teeth. They can replace one to five teeth with two abutment teeth. They must be placed on healthy teeth.
What Are Partial Dentures?
Partial dentures are removeable acrylic replacements of teeth. They can replace one or all teeth. Partial dentures do not rely on abutment teeth so much, like dental bridges.
What is best For Replacing Teeth?
Dental bridges are fixed and dentures are removable, so depending on your teeth and gum health, the cosmetic dentist can decide what’s best for you!
Assessment of Dental Treatment
It is important to have a thorough assessment to see what’s the best option for you. This depends on the teeth, gums and x-rays to show the health of the teeth and jaw.
Alternatives of Replacement Teeth
Dental implants are another option to replacing teeth. You must have good jaw bone to accommodate dental implants. A dental bridge or denture can be supported on dental implants.
What Happens if You Don’t Replace Teeth?
If you do not replace them then your teeth either side of the gap and opposing the gap, may move. It may be difficult to eat. Your face may sink in the places where your teeth are missing.
Prevention of Tooth Wear
Cosmetic dentists are aware that tooth to tooth contact cannot be completely stopped, but with the night bite guard your teeth are prevented from excessive contact and can help tooth wear! In turn this may alleviate jaw and muscle symptoms.

Medications are common cure for chronic TMJ. Of course it is best to ask your health provider which medicine will work best for your condition.
