Children will start loosing their baby teeth when they turn 5 or 6. It will be quite a strange feeling for them having a wiggly tooth, and it may take some convincing to pull it out. The “tooth fairy” is a common western tradition, where the child will put the tooth under their pillow at night, the tooth fairy will come and collect the tooth while the child is asleep – as she needs old teeth in order to make new teeth for babies. She will leave a coin under the pillow, as payment to the child for the tooth.

Things have changed a lot since your child hood, when a fifty cent coin was enough. These days a tooth is worth about $1 or $2.
